Our journey began with a powerful vision: unlocking the immense, overlooked potential of rural women artisans. These women possessed incredible traditional skills—the intricate handwork of Kantha, appliqué, and fine embroidery—but lacked the infrastructure to build sustainable livelihoods. Since 2020, Suryanagri Craft has addressed this gap by establishing foundational training programs and safe, structured environments. Consider Saraswati: she joined our first cohort, and by crafting our signature bags, she gained not just income, but a new voice in her household. The most inspiring growth came organically, not through formal recruitment, but from one empowered woman to the next. We actively encourage every woman to embrace her craft mastery, ensuring she transitions from an unrecognized skill holder to a self-dependent entrepreneur commanding fair compensation. Where Did Hand Embroidery Come From?

The art of hand embroidery is one of the world's most enduring crafts, with origins tracing back over 30,000 years to early stitched decorative patterns found on clothing. It's a truly ancient human art, transforming simple thread into beautiful, lasting stories. This global craft is seen in techniques like bold appliqué, geometric patchwork, reflective Indian mirror work (Shisha), and the thrifty running-stitch quilts of Kantha.
